International Youth Day 2013 & ASUU Strike Day 40!

Every year the world commemorates International Youth Day on August 12th to celebrate young people and their contribution to global development. As the world celebrates International Youth Day today, Nigerian students are at home as the general strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) that has successfully shut down all public universities enters it 40th day!

We don’t have enough spaces for students in our tertiary institutions and delaying enrolled students only creates a backlog and more problems. What happens to idle minds and hands?

The Joint Action Forum (JAF) is organising a mass protest to “Save Public Education” kicking off tomorrow, August 13th at the Nigeria Labour Congress building, Yaba – Lagos by 8am.

We can’t be indifferent to the neglect of public education when those in government and politicians use public funds to train their children in private schools. Sign the travel ban petition here.

Despite, all the gloom and doom, “much is possible by Africans in Africa.” Join our partners at The Future Awards Africa “to tell the story of hope, of change, and of the endless opportunities.” Follow the hashtags #TheFutureAfrica or #TFAA2013.
