EiE Nigeria Weekly Update

"When the history of our times is written, will we be remembered as the generation that turned our backs in a moment of global crisis or will it be recorded that we did the right thing?"
– Nelson Mandela
(Former President  of South Africa)

This week, we had three FREE preview classes in preparation for "Hacking the Nigeria Code" with some of our facilitators, Zeal Akaraiwe, 'Yemi Adamolekun and Feyi Fawehinmi.

Attendees had a first-hand experience of what to expect and trust us, it was insightful!

We already have participants from Abuja, Lagos, London and Joburg!

The deadline for the registration has been extended to Monday, August 24, 2020.

Hurry up and register here!

On Wednesday, August 19, 2020, Abiola Akiode-Afolabi, (Executive Director, WARDC & Legal Counsel to Monica in the OAU case) and Pelumi Olajengbesi, (Principal Partner, Pelumi Olajengbesi & Co. Law Corridor and Legal Counsel to Busola Dakolo), discussed #SGBV Allegations and Prosecution in Nigeria. What are the legal steps to take when it comes to rape? What does the law say? Find out here.

Enough is Enough Nigeria (EiE), Paradigm Initiative (PIN), and BudgIT will host the fourth edition of the bi-annual pan-African New Media, Citizens, and Governance Conference (NMCG) virtually on October 20 and 21, 2020.

On Monday, August 17, 2020, Bayelsa State governorship election tribunal annulled the election of Governor Douye Diri. Lucky King-George, the candidate of the Advanced Nigeria Democratic Party (ANDP), had asked the tribunal to cancel the election because he was excluded from the November 16, 2019 governorship poll by INEC.

The tribunal agreed with the party and ordered fresh elections within 90 days with the inclusion of the ANDP as a participating party. Governor Diri has appealed the ruling of the tribunal.

Recall that Governor Diri came into office when the election victory of David Lyon of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was nullified because his running mate, Degi-Eremienyo, presented a forged certificate to INEC. With the way things are going ehn, all the candidates for that election will take turns on that seat before the tenure ends.

Have a great weekend,
The EiE Nigeria Team
