31-YEAR-OLD COACH, RENA WAKAMA HAS BECOME THE FIRST FEMALE COACH TO WIN THE WOMEN’S AFROBASKET

Originally from Rivers State, Rena Wakama attended Western Carolina University where she obtained a B.A.Sc in Recreational Therapy, and later on in 2017, a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Manhattan College, New York City.

Wakama, a former D’Tigress player was appointed to become the new head coach of the Nigerian women’s team on June 29, 2023, just two weeks before the FIBA Afrobasket Championship.

She became the first female head coach since the inception of the FIBA AfroBasket tournament in 1966 to lead their team to glory.
