On this edition of our #ThursdayTalks, we discussed the state of Nigeria under President Tinubu’s administration, two years in. The conversation focused on how poorly executed policies like the fuel subsidy removal and naira float have worsened economic hardship for many Nigerians. Transport costs have spiked, the value of the naira has dropped drastically, and people are struggling to keep up.

We also talked about the growing insecurity across the country and the lack of urgency from the government in tackling it. There’s concern that security efforts are being politicised instead of addressing real threats. The crackdown on the August 2024 #EndBadGovernance protests was also highlighted as a worrying sign of a shrinking civic space and intolerance for dissent.

Overall, the discussion echoed one clear message — this government needs to listen. Real change will only happen when the focus shifts from politics to people.
