Chidinma Becomes Africa’s First Ever First- Runner Up in the Miss Universe Beauty Pageant

Chidinma Adetshina, the Nigerian representative at the 73rd Miss Universe Beauty Pageant held in Mexico City

Chidinma Adetshina, the Nigerian representative at the 73rd Miss Universe Beauty Pageant held in Mexico City, made history by becoming the first-ever African to finish as first runner-up in the competition. Although she narrowly missed the top spot, Chidinma’s remarkable achievement was a significant milestone for Africa, as she lost to Miss Denmark, Victoria Kjaer Theilvig, who claimed the crown.

This incredible feat came after Chidinma’s controversial withdrawal from Miss South Africa 2024, following xenophobic backlash over her nationality. Born to a Nigerian father and a Mozambican mother, Chidinma was raised in Soweto, South Africa, a diverse background that further highlighted the challenges she faced in her pageant journey.

Her success at Miss Universe demonstrates her resilience and commitment, as she navigated the complexities of representing multiple identities while competing on an international stage.

We salute your resilience, Chidinma!
