Nigerian Born Anita Becomes Oxford University’s First Black Woman Student Union President

Anita Okunde, a 20-year-old student of Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE) at Oxford University

Anita Okunde, a 20-year-old student of Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE) at Oxford University, has registered herself as the first-ever Black woman to be elected as the Student Union President at the prestigious institution.

At a young age, Anita has already established herself as an award-winning activist, an I Will Ambassador, and a public speaker, with a strong focus on intersectional climate justice and feminism. Her political campaign centred around addressing two key issues: increasing female representation in leadership positions and improving support and accommodations for people with disabilities.

Prior to her election as president, Anita served as the student union’s socioeconomic officer, where she worked to make the union more inclusive for all students. She organized the union’s first-ever Black History Month Dinner and Exhibition and hosted socioeconomic debating workshops to encourage open dialogue on important issues.

Keep up the good work, Anita!
