Christ the King College (CKC) Onitsha, Emerges Overall Winner at World Affairs Challenge (WAC) 2024!

The Super Falcons, Nigeria’s senior women’s national football team

Christ the King College (CKC), Onitsha, has made history by becoming the first Nigerian school to win the World Affairs Challenge (WAC), clinching the global first-place position in the 2024 competition. This achievement marks a significant milestone for Nigeria in the 32-year history of the WAC.

Representing Nigeria, CKC Onitsha’s team, comprising Ekufu Ernest, Obuna Tochukwu, Umeodinka Emmanuel, Ejike Ekene, and Ubah Jason, along with their coach Mr. John Onuigbo, impressed judges with their innovative project titled “Wise Tales by Primus”. This initiative features a series of digital comic stories addressing critical global issues such as environmental degradation, climate change, and substance abuse, aiming to raise awareness and inspire positive change among young people.

Their journey to global victory began at the African Regional Competition, where they emerged as the highest-scoring Nigerian team and ranked among the top five in Africa. Their outstanding performance secured them a spot in the global finals, where they showcased their project and defeated teams from the United States and Turkey to secure the coveted first-place position.

In recognition of their remarkable achievement, CKC Onitsha was celebrated with an elaborate reception attended by dignitaries, including the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, and other education stakeholders. The school’s principal, Rev. Fr. Dr. Celestine Arinze Okonkwo, who was present in Denver to receive the victory insignia, expressed gratitude to Archbishop Valerian Okeke for his leadership and support. He also commended Governor Charles Soludo and his team for their commitment to education, noting that the victory underscores the importance of empowering students with life skills to address global challenges.

The team’s victory has garnered widespread acclaim, with notable figures such as Peter Obi, former governor of Anambra State, congratulating CKC Onitsha for bringing honor to Nigeria and emphasizing the need for continued investment in education.

We celebrate these shining stars!
