"Let everyone speak their minds. That's the only way we move forward as a people and demand for progress beyond today, and for our children."

#OfficeOfTheCitizen Activated Against Social Media & Hate Speech Bills

Active citizens protested in 20 states on Wednesday, November 27th to demand that the National Assembly should withdraw the Social Media and Hate Speech Bills. The bills are a direct attack on our freedom of speech and expression.

Our existing laws are enough to address all possible crimes in using social media. Why do we need to create new ones? In fact, the Cybercrime Act 2015 which was assented by former President Goodluck Jonathan was so broad it provided room for abuse, and EiE, Paradigm Initiative (PI) and Media Rights Agenda (MRA) are challenging Section 24 of the Act at the Supreme Court.

How can you #SayNoToSocialMedia and Hate Speech Bills?

If you can’t protest, call your Senator to know his/her stand on the bills.

Write a memo to the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters on the bills. See template.

Zamfara State House of Assembly Repeals Law Authorising Pension for Ex-Governors

Zamfara State House of Assembly has taken the bull by the horns to repeal the law that provides payment of pension and other allowances for ex-governors and their deputies; ex-speakers and their deputies.

Active citizens, engage your State House of Assembly members to follow Zamfara State's footsteps and repeal the law that gives bogus allowances to ex-governors as pensions and gratuities.

Rivers, Lagos and Yobe are particularly obscene and we are in court against it with LEDAP.

#OOTC on Radio
