I’ve Never Voted. Here’s What Finally Made Me Look Closer
I’m a young Nigerian, and I have never voted.
I’m not proud of that, and I’m not going to pretend I have a noble reason. Every election season, the same thing happens. Posters go up, IG posts start flying, and everyone has a loud opinion. Meanwhile I’m thinking, “Who is this one again?”
That’s the part nobody says out loud. For many of us, it isn’t that we don’t care. It’s that we don’t know where to start. And when you don’t trust the process, “I’ll just skip it” is an easy decision to make.
That is the gap GoToMyPU was built to close. It’s a platform from Enough is Enough (EiE) Nigeria that puts political information in one place, so voters can know their candidates and find their polling unit before election day. It’s part of EiE’s work to make political information easier to reach, help citizens make informed choices, and strengthen participation and accountability.
I went in as a skeptic. Here’s what changed my mind.
Seeing the candidates side by side
Most of us decide on vibes: a poster, a loud supporter, a thread we half-read. GoToMyPU lets you pick the office, state and party, open a candidate’s profile, and read their biography, manifesto, priorities, age and education in one place.
The comparison feature is what stayed with me. You can place up to four candidates next to each other. Suddenly, what each person says they’ll do sits beside what their rivals promise. I didn’t have to open five tabs or rely on someone else’s opinion. I could see the differences myself.
That changes what a promise means. A manifesto you’ve read is one you can hold someone to once the votes are counted.
What’s available now
Candidate profiles and manifestos are currently live for the South West and Rivers State, with more states expected to be added. The platform also helps you find your polling unit and get directions, and it answers common questions, which matters when it’s your first time.
The presidential and National Assembly elections hold on 16 January 2027.
I came in doubtful. I’m leaving informed. Look up your candidates on GoToMyPU, and share it with someone who needs it.
